Free time

In lieu of slapping the sketchbook on the scanner again just yet, I thought I'd give a taste of what I do in my free time.

I like to develop worlds. My project this summer was to do one sketch every day -- finished or not. Here are a few choice bits and pieces from this summer. These are essentially a step above roughs -- very rough design work for a world in progress!

Setup and First Sketchdump

This is the sketchblog of Kat Brechtel, a student of Illustration and Character Design at the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary... that is to say, me. This being my first foray into the world of blogging to promote rather than express myself, I may err on the side of succinct for the time being. This is, after all, supposed to let the art do the talking, no?

That said... my very first art dump!

These sketches are most of the contents of my sketchbook since school started at the beginning of September. I drew plenty during the summer, but it was all of a less experimental, and more illustrative nature, to flesh out personal projects... I'm still getting back into the hang of drawing for the sake of drawing, and not to fulfill a goal.

(this one is my favorite)

That's all for now.
